According to a collaborative report regarding higher education in Kentucky, the state’s efforts to increase college enrollment have yielded real results. Of the more than 43,000 public high school graduates in Kentucky’s Class of 2010, over 27,000 enrolled in some type of higher education program. The figure represents over 63% of the graduating class.
The Kentucky High School Feedback Report on College Going for 2010 contains some very encouraging information regarding the statewide higher education initiative. The report is compiled by the Kentucky P-20 Data Collaborative in conjunction with the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE), the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
Charles McGrew, Executive Director of the Kentucky P-20 Data Collaborative, said keeping track of this data is “vital to improving alignment between Kentucky’s high schools and postsecondary institutions and to the overall success of our students.”
Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Joseph U. Meyer said these reports are excellent news and illustrate the importance of our educational agencies in helping to better prepare future graduates for postsecondary opportunities.
Over 90% were enrolled at in-state institutions; the largest numbers attended the University of Kentucky (2,638) and Western Kentucky University (2,391). The largest group of out-of-state students attended Indiana University Southeast (145), a branch of the IU system just across the river from Louisville.
