K-12 Education
The EDI's K-12 network provides leaders from K-12 systems across the country to exchange ideas and discuss best practices around implementation.
EDI convenes two network meetings each year. EDI also hosts a series of webinars and conference calls for network participants on common challenges that have arisen between meetings.
The K-12 network systems are listed below. Several of these network systems have also entered into dedicated engagements with EDI. Read more below about the work in certain systems.
Delaware
EDI has partnered with the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) to plan and drive delivery of the state's reform agenda as outlined in its Race to the Top (RTTT) proposal. EDI has a two-pronged approach in its work with Delaware:
-
At the state level, EDI works with Secretary Lillian Lowery and the Department leadership in developing plans to implement their statewide RTTT goals. Their work involves training staff in the delivery approach, applying the delivery concepts to their existing project management program, and developing/executing routines that ensure plans are actionable and result in improved outcomes for students.
-
At the district level, EDI works with DDOE staff to develop and jointly deliver a cutting-edge support program for Delaware's 19 local education agencies (LEAs). The purpose of the program is to help Districts to use the tenets of delivery in developing their district plans that detail how RTTT funds will be expended. The program includes training and technical support to LEAs, delivered both directly by EDI and through DDOE facilitators.
The ultimate goal of this approach is to produce and implement aligned state and district plans that together help the state achieve its objectives for students.
Kentucky
EDI works with Commissioner Terry Holliday of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) to plan and drive the delivery of the state’s goals for student outcomes. A series of legislative developments and a thorough strategic planning process have given Kentucky an ambitious reform agenda and a framework for organizing it. KDE is now utilizing the delivery approach to connect that agenda to specific targets for student progress.
To lead this work, KDE has created a Delivery Unit that has begun the work of layering the delivery approach on top of the department’s existing project management structure. The work in Kentucky provides an exciting opportunity to connect the two approaches in a powerful way that will achieve real results for students.
Massachusetts
EDI works with Commissioner Mitchell Chester of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) to plan and drive delivery of the state’s aggressive reform agenda. EDI provides technical support, coaching, problem-solving, and builds strategic relations with the MA DESE in support of its implementation efforts.
The MA DESE’s Delivery Unit is housed within its Office of Planning and Research (OPR), whose purpose is to integrate research and evidence into policymaking and strategic planning, track the state’s progress towards achieving its vision and goals, and identify when to change course to achieve those goals.
MA DESE has set bold but achievable goals for improving student outcomes and reducing achievement gaps. They have also identified key measures that will provide evidence of their success and form the basis of the delivery work. Senior-level staff lead teams around each goal and work with the Delivery Unit to plan and drive progress towards each goal.
